Yamila Abraham Is Canceled As Guest

In light of some news that has been brought to my attention regarding former a former Guest of Honor Yamila Abraham of Yaoi Press, she has been canceled to make an appearance at our convention.

I received an email this morning from an acquaintance who provide me with information to media sources stating that Miss Abraham is accused of a web drug sales scheme and was recently arrested and being investigated by the Federal Government, FDA and US Postal Service. Though she is jail, she is scheduled for trial next month.

You can read the complete report on the Las Vegas Sun Website.

Earlier today we contacted Miss Abraham earlier informing her of our choice to cancel her because of these accusations. She quickly tried to convince us to change our minds, informing us of all the publicity she did for us on her blog and twitter and that those who pre-registered to see here and our attending yaoi fans will be disappointed and upset. I highly doubt this will be the cause because of the reasons below.

We would like to make it clear that Utah is a very conservative State. We took a gamble and great risk to invite Yamlia to attend. A risk which we did get ridiculed for. We do not, however, are willing to take a risk with someone who has such accusations against here, weather or not they are true or false. We do not wish have any association with someone being investigated by the Federal Government nor do we wish to have any part of her own publicity. Even though we are listed in her public statement as as a convention she is planning to attend, Anime St. George will not be hosting her as a guest or a dealer.

We will not be wrapped up in the bad publicity that is sure to follow this legal case. This cancellation may, as Yamlia made clear in a reply to us, devastating her company because additional conventions will cancel based on this news. Conventions invite and cancel their guests at their own choice. If her company looses business because of this news, then there should have been better business practices on her part.

Despite this cancellation of Yamlia Abraham, Steve Nunez (Warky T. Chocobo) will still be attending our convention. He will be playing a live concert as well as have a spot in our Dealer’s Room to sign autographs and promote himself.

  1. Ummm… spell check fail much?

Anyway, that’s a bit of a bummer, but this convention’s still got plenty to offer! Can’t wait for Saturday!
