Website Updates for 2011 Convention Year
Alright, so I got bored yesterday and randomly updated the entire website in preparations for the 2011 convention year. So now, when you go onto the Official ASG Convention Website, you won’t find a whole bunch of old information left over from the con a few months ago. Surprisingly enough, I already got an email from someone who wanted to be a guest at next years con. While I have a few idea’s I’m knocking around with our fans on Facebook and the ASG Forums, I’m not quite ready to hook and book anyone yet. =_= When I do, I’ll let you all know.
For those who are interested, Dealer Registration will open January 15th, 2011 and will continue through September 1st, 2011 or until we sell out. Pre-Registration will be open April 1st, 2011 and also continue through September 1st, 2011. Prices for both registration, dealers and at-door are the same as last year.
Here are some updates and changes you will find on the website for the upcoming year:
Online Pre-Reg is going to be getting a bit of a makeover this year to help streamline badge pickup the day of the convention and help cut down on lines. We had a bit of a mess at ASG10 on account our previous system of registration wasn’t quite ready for the massive wave of people that showed up at 10AM. Pre-Reg people and Walk-ins got a little jumbled all together and we ended up missing a few registration cards. This time around, more much needed information will be required on the online form so we can print out pre-reg badges ahead of time. Pre-reg people will also have their own separate line, so they basically walk up, show their PayPal receipt and get their badge and continue on. Hopefully this will cut down on wait time as well as not drive our registration staff insane.
Dealers Room Layout Tweaked
Things in real life are never as big as they say they are on paper. Thankfully it wasn’t a problem with us for ASG10 but to prevent future problems, the Dealers Room Layout has been tweaked slightly. We may have to find a different place to put our photoshoot backdrop but that shouldn’t be much of a problem.
Myspace Gone Bye Bye
I have found Myspace to be just as useless to me now as it was the first time I saw it. I have never once updated our Myspace page since…well…almost a year. Twitter and Facebook is where it’s at so I’ve completely trashed our Myspace page all together and the link has been taken off the front splash page, home page and here on the blog.
Yeah, I know I’ve been pitching our forums since they have opened a few weeks ago but that’s because they are going to be an important source of information for the new convention year. Panel suggestions, volunteer openings, main event information and other basic things will be posted on the forum. This is also a good way for us to get feedback on new ideas that are being knocked around and whatnot. Also, all those people who send me emails about the most randomness of questions (that have nothing to do with the convention itself) will be redirected to post on the forums for fellow use help. We also have a feedback area, help desk, as well as area’s for non-con related topics such as life issues, personal projects, anime chat and more.
A link to the forums has now been added to the main website navigation menu as well as a button link on the splash and home page.
The separate Phantom Cosplay page on the main website has been removed due to lack of interested and has been replaced with a button link on the home page as well as redirect forum link on the ASG Forums.
Phantom Masque online sign ups are going to be slightly tweaked again this year to make sign in at the Masquerade Desk easier and eliminate the need to fill out additional information.
Other then a few random things, that should cover the new updates. I shall now go back and enjoy my holiday season and be absolutely lazy until the new year.
