Guest Performance – Cathleen Martinez & Company

Anime SG is proud to announce that Haidong Gumdo instructor, Cathleen Martinez and her martial arts staff will be performing a demo on the ancient Korean sword arts as part of the Phantom Masque’s half time show.

Haidong Gumdo is the Korean equivalent of Japanese Kendo with the exception that while Kendo focuses on a single death blow, Haidong Gumdo’s main focus lies in battlefield engagements and the fighting of multiple opponents. This sword art has widely grown in popularity in Utah as well as the rest of the United States. While it was once a little known art form, Haidong Gumdo is now one of Korea’s dominate martial arts alongside Taekwondo.

“Coach” Cathleen is a Certified Personal Trainer and Surgical Technician who excels in multiple martial arts and has a black belt Hapkido, Taekwondo and Haidong Gumdo. Because of her love of high impact and dangerous sports she has had the uncanny pleasure of learning the physiology of the human body in conflict which led her into the medical industry. Since then she has earned not only her Surgical Technician Certification in 2003 but also an Emergency Medical Technician Certification in 2000. Cathleen now works as an adjunct instructor for Dixie Community College and teaches Haidong Gumdo classes at International Martial Arts Center in St. George, UT.
